Jan’s Talks

Riding the Reading Roller Coaster of Dyslexia

Have you ever been at the top of a roller coaster anticipating the next plunge? Aaaaaah! Is your experience in teaching your child to read much like that of a roller coaster ride? “You knew that word yesterday!” you say in amazement when your child doesn’t recognize the same word today. This is a mystery akin to going through a dark cave on the roller coaster where everything you were carrying fell out. There doesn’t seem to be rhyme nor reason to why your teaching strategy is not working. Don’t settle for coping and compensating, expensive dyslexia programs or the limitations of labels. Learn to think differently and get the breakthrough you are looking for in reading.

When Does Homeschooling Really Begin?

Home schooling starts at birth! Jan Bedell, PhD, M ND, will share tips that maximize those everyday teachable moments with your child from birth to four-years-old. All too often these pivotal years are not considered “home school” years, when in fact every hour you spend specifically working with your preschool child, will save you five hours or more in later years! Using this training, developmental milestones can be easily reached and chances of learning difficulties can be greatly reduced.
Your knowledgeable guidance in the early years positions your children for a lifetime of learning and leadership. Academic abilities results from a good foundation of brain function. Dr. Jan, the Brain Coach, gets you started on the road to success!

Organizing Einstein: Enhancing the Abilities of the Gifted Learner

When one or more of your children is gifted, it can present a whole new set of challenges as a homeschooling family. The Brain Coach, Jan Bedell, will help you discover strategic ways to organize and optimize those gifted brains to maximize your children’s full God-given potential.
The brain controls everything that you do so no matter what your IQ, it is essential to have a well-organized and high processing brain to take advantage of all that intelligence. It could mean the difference in having a great computer that was connected to high-speed internet instead of dial-up. The function is incredibly different even though the intelligence of the computer didn’t change all.

Make Learning Easier!

The foundation of all learning abilities is the efficient functioning of the brain. Remember your old dial-up connection to the Internet? Is your child’s brain like a computer with a slow connection speed? i.e. struggling academically and socially, not reaching his full potential; remembering daily activities, chores and personal hygiene seem difficult to him; he knows something one day but not the next; can’t follow directions? Do you suspect learning labels? What is a parent to do? You could buy another curriculum OR you could address the “root cause” so that academic success could be attained with any curriculum. You could help the same brain become like a computer connected to high-speed Internet. The difference in function is HUGE! Discover brain-boosting keys that will skyrocket your child’s learning potential regardless of learning styles or challenges.

Foundation of Learning Styles (More than Auditory, Visual and Kinesthetic)

A child’s learning abilities increase when their brain is properly stimulated. The Brain Coach will teach you some brain-boosting tips for all learning styles. Your teaching can be more effective and your children’s learning potential optimized! Discover the most efficient way to teach math operations, math facts, reading, spelling, and penmanship. Let’s look beyond a traditional “Learning Styles” model. Dr. Jan Bedell shares how to optimize the brain for better performance in academics and in life. Learn practical techniques ensuring higher performance whether gifted, typical or challenged.

Create a Positive Learning Environment

Is your home or classroom chaotic – more like a war zone than the exciting learning environment you had always imagined? Discover what may lie behind some of those behavioral issues you’ve been experiencing with your children. Learn to evaluate the positive and negative aspects of your home dynamics so you can create practical solutions for positive learning and living. The Brain Coach™ will also be discussing an effective behavior management system.

 Oh That Absent-Minded Professor – ADD/ADHD Solutions

Is your child able to focus for hours on topics of interest but resembles a rebounding pinball when it comes to math or reading? How can you pay attention to academic instruction when your sensory information is distorted and resembles sparks flying from a damaged electrical connection? Answer: It’s next to impossible! What about holding information in short term memory so directions can be followed? If poor auditory processing exists it is nearly unattainable. Become equipped to address the root causes that produce these negative symptoms and avoid the limitations that often come with labels. Learn why your child’s function does not match the God-given capabilities you know exist.

Auditory, What?

This workshop addresses some of the challenges associated with teaching struggling and atypical learners at home in the high school years. Do you have questions such as “How do I award my child with special needs a diploma?” or “What do I do since my child with dyslexia can’t read typical high school level material?” Faith discusses alternative coursework, specialized curricula and learning materials, assistive technology, transcript options, possible graduation guidelines, high school programs for special learners, and post–high school options. She also offers tips for navigating the process of applying for testing accommodations for College Board tests.

To Label or Not to Label… That is the Question

Is your child struggling behaviorally or academically? Have you wondered if s/he would have a label if tested or are you feeling devastated by labels already received? This workshop is for you! The NeuroDevelopmental Approach looks at the whole child and teaches parents to accelerate progress by identifying root causes instead of just coping and compensating. Most labels are symptomatic (a list of symptoms). Each of these symptoms have roots causes. When you are equipped to address foundational issues, you can often say, “No to labels and yes to hope!”

Learning Difficulties, Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD-There is Hope for Change

Do you suspect Dyslexia/ADD/ADHD or other learning labels? Labels typically come from a list of symptoms, not a “disease” or “brain abnormality.” Dr. Jan will guide you through the root causes of symptomatic labels and give practical skills for training your child’s brain to eliminate the symptoms. Parents can be the key to breaking free of labels and reaching beyond their limiting, negative effects! Open a brilliant future for your child through understanding how the brain works . . . or why it doesn’t currently seem to be working so well. The goal of this workshop is to help you unlock your child’s full potential.
