Deer Hill Expeditions
Based in Mancos, Colorado for over 36 years, Deer Hill Expeditions has been running programs in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah that challenge young people to discover their personal strengths in relation to the world around them. The Deer Hill Administrative team and experienced field staff, along with the support of Founders and Owners Doug and Beverly Capelin, achieve this vision through well-planned wilderness expeditions in familiar country and with long-standing relationships in Navajo, Hopi and Zuni communities and with local farms and conservation partners.
Deer Hill Expeditions provides enriching wilderness and service experiences in the American Southwest, designed to foster personal growth and cultivate a greater sense of self and community. Students are challenged through these experiences in nature, returning to their communities as more confident, skilled, and empathetic leaders.
The Homeschool Scholar Adventure Program (HSAP) from Deer Hill Expeditions is a two-week expeditionary-learning style program designed specifically to give homeschool and non-traditional students a unique learning experience away from any screens and into the best classroom–nature! Along with experienced guides and a tailored curriculum, students spend the first week at Deer Hill’s basecamp engaging with interactive classroom work, then head out during week 2 for an expedition-style adventure to cap off their experience! The first session starts April 3rd, 2021!
Deer Hill Expeditions is accredited by the Association for Experiential Education (AEE), was awarded the ‘Organizational Member of the Year’ Award by AEE in 2019, and maintains an impeccable record of risk management.
